When I began Project H, the goal was to let myself go into territories that I had not explored before by using starting points that were not mine. I asked people who followed my work what they would like me to do next, something that would challenge me to discover new paths. The result was overwhelming, with a diversity of visions that I would never have thought of myself.
After understanding how I could tackle them, I decided to put pen to paper and write. A book would be the preferred format, as many have requested. Inspiration struck me as I explored various topics suggested and attempted to find stories and episodes that related to them. The result? Not great. There were too many things, too many ideas for one single project. I took a step back, considered the ideas presented to me, and identified which ones would work together for this book. Slowly, I started to find the heart of this particular work, and once that happened, everything became easier: the ideas, the writing, the design.
One thing inspired the other, and I started to create magic pieces because of the work I was doing in the book. The work became easier, but the selection of the material became harder. Great books have excellent editing, and for this book to be what I felt it should be, some material created was left out of the final version. Here is one magic piece that did not make the cut but emerged from this creative process. The video is my archival footage, raw and unedited, with no glamour, just pure technique in the moment. I recorded it to capture the idea. In the middle of the creative process, it's the easiest way to make sure no idea is lost in the mix. Enjoy!
